Music Fees due Jan 13

Just a reminder that 1st & 2nd quarter music fees are now due. You can check your outstanding fees by logging into CHARMS with your student ID. If you have any trouble accessing CHARMS or have questions about your account, please contact me right away. All fees are due this week.

If student fees are not paid up by Friday, Jan 13 then money owed becomes a fine through the district and you will receive a bill instead of a report card. I want to give you early notice of this so that if there are any problems with your account we can address them this week.

Remember, if you still owe $25 for a dress rental that amount is payable by separate check to the HMA. All other fees are to be paid to the RSD book keepers. You can help speed up the book keeping by letting the RSD book keepers know for what fee the funds are meant.

Finally, many of you have credit in your charms accounts that can be used toward fees. Feel free to use these fundraising funds in combination w/ your payments. Email with any questions.

About the Count Basie Jazz Orchestra

William Count Basie started the Count Basie Orchestra in 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri.  Within a year, America was listening in on popular radio shows throughout the country to the “All American Rhythm Section,” and what would become “The Swingingest Band in All the Land!”  A phenomena was born in 1935 that is still going strong today.

Since Basie’s passing in 1984, Thad Jones, Frank Foster, Grover Mitchell, Bill Hughes, and Dennis Mackrel have led the Count Basie Orchestra and maintained it as one of the elite performing groups in jazz. The Count Basie Orchestra has won 17 Grammys and 20 Downbeat and Jazz Times polls—more than any other big band. To learn more, visit their website at www.basieband.com.

HMA’S ANNUAL SIDE OF BEEF RAFFLE

Dear Parents:

Our Music Students are going to begin selling Raffle Tickets for a side of beef, cut, wrapped, and delivered to the winner’s home (granted that they don’t live too far away).  Each Ticket is to be sold for $5.00 and the students make $2.50 profit for each ticket they sell.  Tickets will be checked out by Mr. Swisher anytime he is available starting on Wednesday, October 5, 2011.  Students are responsible for selling the tickets checked out or returning the tickets to Mr. Swisher by Friday,  December 9, 2011.

If a student receives donations in lieu of a ticket purchase, half will go to HMA and half will be placed in the students CHARMS account.  When turning in your sales, please include Raffle Ticket Stubs,  money received, (keep donation money separate), double-check that all funds are included in your envelope to match the ticket sales, then write the students name and “Beef Raffle” on the envelope.  This will expedite processing and will be greatly appreciated!  Any student who fails to return tickets or damages their tickets will be charged $5.00 for each ticket.

This is a Hanford Music Association Fundraiser and no money is to be turned into the Bookkeeping office.  In order to check out tickets, students must fill out and return a purple Permission to Participate in School Fund Raisers form.  Checks for the tickets can be made out to HMA and all money is to be returned to the locker in Mr. Swisher’s office by Friday, December 9th, 2011.

A Special Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Hanna for donating the side of beef.  If you have further questions, please email Kevin Swisher at Kevin.swisher@rsd.edu or Joyce Bowman, Beef Raffle Chairperson at jabcrown@frontier.com

Sincerely,
Kevin Swisher and Chris Newbury

Dress fee payable to HMA

Female music students that haven't paid their required Dress Rental Fee of $25.00 need to do so as soon as possible. Turn your $25.00 check, made out to HMA, directly to Mr. Swisher promptly in order to receive your dress. Due to situations in the past of non-payment, we've had to adapt a new policy regarding Dress Rentals. Therefore, those students who haven't paid their Dress Rental Fee before an upcoming musical performance, will not be able to perform without their appropriate Dress attire. Please double-check your accounts and make sure you have made this payment. Special thanks to Leslie Olds and her helpers for measuring and assigning dresses to our music students!

Marching Band T-shirt/sweatshirt orders

In the event you haven't received a copy of the Order Form for selecting your Marching Band 2011 T-Shirts/Hoodies, we've supplied a copy of this form online for your convenience. Just download it, read the instructions carefully (special notation on how to write in Marching Band Camp Student T-Shirt selection), and be sure to turn the Order Form and payment in to the HHS Bookkeeping Office on or before September 2, 2011.

Prices: T-Shirts are $12.00 each and the Sweatshirt/Hoodies are $20.00 each. If you need a size larger than XL, please add an additional $2.00 per item ordered.

Please make your check payable to: RSD

We've included a "receipt" section on the bottom of the Order Form for you write down what you ordered, then cut off and keep for your records. There has been confusion in the past over who ordered what color, size or item, and we'd like to try and remedy this from occurring again.

It's critical that we meet our September 2, 2011 deadline to ensure orders are turned in and processed promptly so we can have our T-Shirts/Hoodies before competition begins. Your promptness will be greatly appreciated.

News regarding music classes

Mr. Gosney has released information that he has secured additional .2 staffing for the music department for next year from the district/school board! Jazz 3 will be moved into the school day (not zero hour) and a designated choir teacher will be hired. Sadly, JoLyn has only one open period in her schedule so she will not be able to take this position. A new person will come on board for this opportunity which will, in the long term, allow for the program to continue to grow beyond next year. The music department is the only HHS department to NOT experience a reduction in staffing for the upcoming year. Please thank Mr. Gosney for his dauntless efforts to maintain the outstanding quality music programs at HHS. Thanks to all for working together and especially, administration and directors for making this happen!
